How the quote is structured for line-by-line comparison

The written quote follows the order of your BOQ: every item has a matching line with the same description and unit (square metre, linear metre or number).

Within each item we separate four elements: supply, meaning the stone at the specified thickness and finish; cutting to size; installation on site; and polishing after installation where required. So you can compare quotes element by element, or ask for supply only on some items and supply and installation on others.

We also write down the assumptions behind the quote: where the measurements came from, the edge profile, site condition. The quote depends on stone grade, thickness, finish and site conditions, and is confirmed after the site is measured.

Site measurement before cutting, slab selection at the showroom

Drawings are a starting point; cutting begins only after the site is measured: walls out of square, sink and hob cut-outs in the kitchen worktop, tread and riser heights, window sill sizes after plastering. Site measurement reduces waste and the need for re-cutting.

Natural stone varies from block to block in colour and veining, even under the same name. The engineer or consultant can visit the showroom, pick the actual slabs the project will be cut from, and approve them before work starts. Quartz is more uniform in colour, but approve a sample first too.

Once approved, the quote notes which slabs were approved for each item.

Working across Alexandria's districts and building types

That is why we ask about access before cutting. Shorter skirting and stair pieces may be the answer when a full slab will not fit in the lift.

On a multi-storey project, say in your message if you need the stone supplied in stages as plastering and flooring progress, so it is not stored on site where it gets broken.

Ask about samples and mock-ups

Before approving a colour, ask about samples on WhatsApp. A small piece in the required finish lets the consultant compare it with the paint, tiles and timber on site, under the site's own lighting.

For repeated items, such as a tread and riser, a worktop edge with a particular profile, or skirting at a fixed height, ask on WhatsApp whether a single mock-up can be made and approved before the full quantity is cut. It settles the edge, the visible thickness and the joints before any mistake is repeated in every flat.

Say exactly what you want to approve, the colour alone or the finish and edge too, and the reply will say what is possible.
