About this stone

Black Aswan is a dense black granite with grey and pale crystals scattered through it, so it looks like natural stone rather than a painted surface. Yards often sort it by the colour of those crystal patches, called fass, such as rose, red, white or harban, so ask which one you are looking at.

It is hard, takes hot pans and polishes to a deep shine, which makes it a classic for kitchen countertops, stair treads, window sills and vanities. The caveat: polished black shows fingerprints, dust and dried water spots quickly. Leathered or honed finishes hide them better, but a honed black surface should be sealed so oil does not leave dull patches.

Care

Wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry it to avoid water spots. Avoid acid and bleach cleaners, and reseal honed or leathered surfaces yearly.
