How to measure what you need before asking for a price
You do not need to be precise to ask. A rough measurement and a photo are enough for a first quote; we take the final measurements on site before cutting.
Two different units
Floors and walls are priced per square metre: length × width. Kitchen countertops, stairs, window sills and skirting are usually priced per linear metre at a set width, or per piece. When comparing two quotes, check they use the same unit, width and thickness.
Kitchen
Measure each run of worktop along the wall in centimetres, and the depth from the wall to the front edge. Note the sink and hob positions and how many, and whether you want an upstand or splashback and at what height.
Example: a 3.20 m run plus a 1.80 m run is 5 linear metres, with one sink cut-out, one hob cut-out and a 10 cm upstand.
Stairs
Count the steps, measure the tread (the horizontal part) and the riser (the vertical part), note how many landings and their size, and whether you want skirting following the stairs.
Example: 16 steps with a 30 cm tread and 16 cm riser, plus one landing of 1.20 × 2.00 m.
Floors and walls
Multiply length by width for each room and add them up. For walls, multiply width by height and subtract doors and large windows. Add an allowance for waste, which varies with the sizes, the pattern and vein matching; we state it in the quote rather than leaving it as a surprise.
Sills, thresholds and balcony walls
Measure each window's length and sill depth, count the doors that need a threshold, and measure the balcony wall's length and height. These are small pieces, but the count changes the price, so list them all.
