About this stone
A black marble from the Ligurian coast, marked by drifting bands of gold and ochre veining with fine white lines running through. It brings a rich, formal feel to a room and looks at home with warm lighting, brass fittings and dark joinery.
It is at its strongest where it can be seen and not worked hard: a feature wall, a vanity top, a console or dining table, or a framed floor inlay. The honest caveat is that Portoro is a delicate stone with natural fissures, and slabs are often resin-filled and backed for strength. It also marks with acids, so it is not a practical choice for a busy kitchen.
Care
Use soft cloths and a pH-neutral cleaner only, and keep acids and abrasive pads away. Reseal regularly and wipe spills at once.
